MENTAL HEALTH

Alcohol abuse and substance misuse has been a major cause of mental illness in our community and are much more likely to develop mental illnesses than those who don’t. Mental illness remains a significant contributor to disability, reduced productivity and suffering in our community as in everywhere.

Umoona Tjutagku Health Services (UTHS) has incorporated ‘The Mental Health Services and After Hours Mental Health services’ in its Drug and Alcohol Day Centre. Our mission is to ensure the well-being of every individual who are directly or indirectly affected by mental health problems. We have empowered many lives through our programmes to lead a happy life, to cope with stresses of life and to work productively and fruitfully to make a contribution to their own community.

Mental Health team consists of Mental Health RN, Social worker and Aboriginal Health worker. We provide a client centred, culturally appropriate and holistic mental health services to the people of Coober Pedy and surrounding places.
